Our reviews of Websites are based on a number of factors:

  • Believability - If it is a site based on reality, is it believable?  If it is a show based on pure fiction or speculation, does it say so and could it happen?
  • Originality - Is this an original concept, or does it seem like I've seen it before?
  • Entertainment - Is the website entertaining enough to keep my attention or did I lose interest before clicking through to the next page?
  • Content - Is the content of the site pertinent or do they just advertise it to be paranormal based to catch our attention?
  • Production - Is the site well put together in a way to allow the viewer to easily navigate and absorb all of the intended information?
  • Follow up/Preview - Did I find the site easily in a simple search or click through from another related site?  Does the content change enough for me to want to return to this site?
  • Viewer opinion - Cast your votes, they do have an impact on our ratings.

The Beyond http://www.thebeyond.info/ Reviewed by Cassandra 5 BONES

The first thing that caught my eye on this site was the following message: “Website designed to encourage a TRULY, open-minded study of paranormal phenomena with a scientific approach, a spiritual heart, and a little attitude.” I started out by checking out their site menu on the left and liked what I saw. I was hooked! The owner of the site who writes the main articles tells it as it is. He does not sugar coat things but says them honestly and directly. This amused me and kept me reading. He writes simply and gives very good advice on basic ghost hunting equipment but divides it into six categories: For Beginners, Basic, Audio, Video, Meters, and Metaphysical Tools. I also was impressed with the audio for he gives tutorials on how to use Audacity and Adobe to edit and clean up EVP’s.   The page was very easy on the eyes, and the design was pleasing as well! I read the mission statement and discovered Bill (the owner) to be an honest guy who told everybody who thought they were perfect in the paranormal field off. All of the things he said were things I agreed with, and showed me that there still was common sense in the world.

They have a message board, and I registered, even though don’t need to register to view the forums. They keep it clean and they are honest about their views and opinions. Another part and section of this site is Beyond Paranormal Investigations. They clearly state that their purpose is to help and they are a non-profit organization.

I keep going back to the site just to read up on the information they write on and every time I do, I feel I learn something new.  All I can say at this point is well done to The Beyond. I give them 5 bones – don’t miss it!

Paranormal Task Force   http://www.paranormaltaskforce.com/ Reviewed by Cassandra 5 BONES

This is a site that has put together two previous ones: Missouri Paranormal Research and Paravoyance. It also includes PTF-XTreme and Task Force Entertainment and Productions. There is so much to see on this site that I have actually visited three times and I have to say I am not even close to having viewed it in its entirety. I really enjoy coming here and plan to continue doing it frequently.

There are paranormal investigations from Missouri Paranormal Research well worth mentioning such as the Zombie Road Investigations or the ones carried out at Waverly Hills. Paravoyance, also called “Your Connection to the Other Side” focuses more on the Clairvoyant (Psychic) and Metaphysical realms that intertwine with the paranormal”.

The paranormal investigators who were filmed on the documentary ‘The Children of the Grave’ are actually the Paranormal Task Force team.

The owner of the site, Greg Myers, has done a fantastic job in putting all the information together. I give this site 5 bones – don’t miss it!

This site has an excellent design and is not only easy to navigate but has lots of paranormal information. One of the things I particularly enjoyed about this site was the Warning placed on the Haunted Places links which is as follows:

BEWARE:

We have compiled a list from legends, myths, and other various sources of haunted locations. We have not conducted investigations at all of these sites, so we can not say with certainty that these are truly haunted. Many of these are true, while others should be considered to be entertainment. Many of the places listed here are on private property and require the owners’ permission to investigate or visit. Many of these locations are patrolled by the police and trespassers will be arrested and prosecuted.”

I thought this was a fantastic introduction to these pages where you can read all about haunted locations in Indiana, Illinois and Virginia.  Of course, they also have Haunted Bed and Breakfasts, Haunted Restaurants and Bars, Ghost Stories and other interesting things to check out! I just want to say that I was amazed by the amount and quality of the content on this site! Well done, Will County Ghost Hunters Society! I give this site 5 bones! – Don’t Miss It!!!

CJ EVP Research

I think this site is excellent. I have learned a great deal on EVPs just by going in a few times and reading all that the owner has to offer! She has done a magnificent job on the site itself. It is easy to read and navigate through and the layout is very well done. She gives us Definitions of EVP with examples of the three classes and the info on the History of EVPs. When clicking on Precaution she gives tips on getting good EVPs as well as how to protect yourself which I found extremely useful. Her collection is one of the most, if not the most amazing one I have encountered on the net. I highly recommend anyone who wishes to learn about EVPs to visit this site. She also has started up a forum which you have to join in order to discuss and learn even more on EVP work and other Paranormal issues.

I know I will always keep returning to this lovely site. I give it 5 bones!

This site not only has a popular Top Sites listing but also a directory and a store.  The layout is simple and easy on the eyes. Another plus is the navigation menu, which makes it easy to follow up on other points of interest. I particularly liked their presentation of Orbs. This is not the usual article written by the site owners, what they did was put up the different views and articles written by other site owners and authors. This is something I have never seen before on any other site and I have to say, “Well done!” to Paranormal United.

They also have a section that directs you to other paranormal sites for Paranormal Research, Paranormal Books, Paranormal Publications and Paranormal Websites. The site also gives a paranormal dictionary of ghosts and ghost hunting equipment terms.

I really liked this site, and found it interesting and useful. I give it 5 bones!

Oxford Paranormal Society http://www.oxfordparanormalsociety.com/ Reviewed by Cassandra 4 BONES

The statement on their home page is as follows: “In 2006, the OPS Team was formed. Based out of Oxford Alabama, the team was started by three guys that are very much into the paranormal but approach it from a different perspective then most. We accept every case with the knowledge that we will be focused on disproving every claim or report from a scientific and skeptic point of view. It is our goal that if we are unable to disprove the claims or reports, we will then try to help you gather evidence to support those claims. Our investigations are free as are our services to you. We fund our Team by donations from individuals and from the sell of t-shirts and other merchandise.”

The website is easy to navigate, and the lay out simple and easy to the eyes. Their paranormal investigations are well presented, though I found some difficulties when it came to watching their videos. A plus is a Paranormal Arcade with an OPS Crossword puzzle that was really fun! I give this site 4 bones, I really liked it!

The Ohio Ghost Hunters Network (GotGhosts?) http://gotghosts.us/index.shtml Reviewed by Cassandra 4 BONES
The Ohio Ghost Hunters Network (GotGhosts?) - Home of the Lake Erie Ghost Hunters Society

I especially liked this statement on their homepage: “GotGhosts? The Ohio Ghost Hunters Network is a network of serious ghost hunters , dedicated to helping those who are victimized  by the paranormal and/or being haunted. We conduct investigations for private residences and business' in the Tri-Ohio area. We do not claim to be able to remove any spirits or entities. All investigations are strictly scientific and done absolutely FREE. Please remember there is no such thing as a "Professional" or "Certified" Ghost Hunter or Ghost Buster.”

The site offers a lot of information on investigations and haunted places in the Tri-Ohio state area. The Rules for Investigations impressed me as they warned of things that investigators should not do or be careful of when on an investigation. There is excellent advice on this page that should be read and taken into consideration when going on a ghost hunt.

When I clicked on Investigations, I found a page with a chart which showed the location, and their conclusion upon returning for more investigations. It gave me the impression of a serious group who wants to help the client and get proof to validate claims. The site also has a forum, available to registered members only, but I didn’t register due to lack of time.

Their paranormal evidence is huge, and I plan to go back to check out their EVP work and photographic evidence. All in all, I give the site 4 bones!

As soon as you click on the link, you will find such a great display on your screen, I frankly became overwhelmed! So much information and so much to read that you don’t know where to look. Clicking on the “Our Reports” section brings you to the features in their newsletter. Lots of interesting material here, but you must become a member to read the stories in full. When clicking on the “Become a member link”, we are taken to a page for subscriptions. A month costs $5.00 and a year (with two extra months free of charge) costs $50.00. This is a drawback for any of you who cannot afford to join. However, I found the articles interesting as I as enjoy reading about all that is advertised on the site.

If you enjoy reading about ancient mysteries, ufology, the paranormal, and unique life on earth among other topics of the weird and unexplained, then by all means, join.

I give the site 4 bones, I really liked it.

This Canadian website impressed me. Their homepage has a simple layout and is easy to navigate through. I particularly liked the two videos placed on their welcome/homepage. The other good point is the section dedicated to anomalies where they explain the nature of orbs and ‘rods’ or mysterious lights.

They have a forum where you have to register in order to view the forum topics of discussion. I registered and discovered a lot of posts to read that were interesting. It seems that they really want hard core evidence of the paranormal and this is a plus.  I give this site 4 bones.

Myths, Ghosts and Legends

http://spookythings.iofw.co.uk/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1

Reviewed by Cassandra 4 BONES

This site on Myths, Ghosts and Legends of The Isle of Wight, UK,  has recently been upgraded and the only problem I had while visiting it was that the site navigation menu on the left has a tendency to jump down to the bottom when clicking on it. I suppose that this small inconvenience will be fixed as the notice on the homepage is that they are upgrading it daily. I loved the layout and found the stories on the Isle of Wight very interesting and intriguing! In fact I was so absorbed in reading them that I lost track of time! They also have a Games Section which I avoided as I can become addicted to these things. LOL

They also have a section dedicated to their Ghost Encounters, which was very informative and entertaining to say the least. They have a section called Visit the Island which gives details of how to get there and what to expect. They advertise Ghost Trips, with their team to guide you through the haunted places on the island. The section I liked best was their Mini Movies of the Haunted Places they visited at the island.

There is lots to see on this site even though it is ‘new’ as they say on their homepage.

Well done, Myths, Ghosts and Legends for such a great place to visit!  I really liked this site and found it entertaining and interesting. I give it 4 bones!

Haunted Cuyahoga http://www.hauntedcuyahoga.com/index2.htm Reviewed by Cassandra 3 BONES

The owner of ‘The Moonspenders’ merges his old site into this website to form Haunted Cuyahoga, a website that has several ‘coming soon’ notices on its pages. However, I also noticed that the owner writes that his hard drive crashed and I sympathize with him. A look around the site denotes a great layout, design and easy navigation. When you click on Investigations, it takes you to a page with photos of haunted spots where investigations took place.  I clicked on the picture and the page opened to reveal the history of the haunted place on the left, and on the right Paranormal Evidence (Photos, EVP, and so on). Out of the 39 locations there, only 10 featured paranormal evidence, the rest had a ‘coming soon’ notice, which was a bit frustrating.  I liked the Equipment page, as it lists the equipment that should be used on ghost hunts and gives a brief explanation under each one. There is a section dedicated to the book, “Haunted Cuyahoga” also. Another feature is ‘Paranormal Reading’ where the owners recommend a list of paranormal books available through amazon. This site also has a Glossary page on paranormal words and phrases.

I was pleased with the website, but I really found it frustrating to see so many incomplete pages. I hope they will continue to update it frequently, as this could be a great website to visit repeatedly to read information on the paranormal and this group’s investigations.

I give this site 3 bones.

SW-GM.com Top Paranormal Resource

I was a bit confused when I entered this website. The navigation is not very easy, as when you are taken to the Paranormal Encyclopedia section and start reading up on it, you have a bit of trouble getting back to the home page. This section is from wikipedia, and the attempt is to copy out all the Paranormal Articles there for better viewing and reading on the site. I liked this part very much and hope that they will fill in the gaps as they promise, for there is a lot more to do here.

The part that I disliked the most was his theories. The first thing is that if you are going to write something on the net, please try to at least use a dictionary for proper spelling. I did like the way the author/owner presented drawings and diagrams. The theories were very simple and lacked explanation.

There is a forum to discuss all the different stories and theories as well. A lot on Sci-Fi and anime. There is a separate section on the forum for Games Designing and Games.  I found this site not as good as I would have liked, I give it 3 bones.

Paranormal Stew

http://stew.2ya.com/

Reviewed by GhstL8y 3 BONES
I'm going to start this review by saying that I really can't decide whether I like this site or not.  I'm giving 3 Bones due to the indecision, I'll explain.  So I guess this one will be up to the voters to decide whether this site is better or less than just average.

This is the website of a Florida paranormal investigation group called The Secret Society of Paranormal Research.

The home page of this website is big.  By big, I mean there is a lot of information crammed into one page that could have, even should have been split out into other pages for esthetic purposes.  Many of the pages are difficult to read because a) black text on dark blue background is impossible to read with my old eyes, and b) I have to scroll down to read one thing, then back up to find the next thing.  It puts me in mind of reading an article in a magazine.  You just get into it on page 4, then you have to find the rest of the article on page 125.  The difference is, while scrolling through the article you would like to finish reading, your peripherals catch a headline that you want to read next, but to find it you have to search for it, and it's on the same page!  Oh, and can we say Spell Check?

I will say that there are many fun and interesting things to read here, as well as some very useful information and just the right amount of skepticism.  For example, one reader asks, "Isn't what you do dangerous? I've seen on other sites that they say you can let bad spirits out and you need to be protected. I love the reply from Wally, in part, "Why is it dangerous? Yes some people do say it's dangerous etc and go off on flights of fantasy about guardian spirits etc but where's the proof of this really? I'll hazard a guess that these sites also told you that it should be left to 'professionals' too didn't they? Between you and me, there aren't any professionals in this field really - these people want you to think they have all the answers when in reality they only think they do. It can be dangerous if people believe all the nonsense they're told by these 'all knowing spiritual guides to the Universe' without thinking practically."  Good advice, Wally!

Then on another page, which offers notes and summaries of their investigations, I found, "Evidence shows that perhaps up to 10,000 years ago Native Americans were living in the area now occupied by the hotel."  Really?  10,000 years ago?  How deep did they have to dig to find this evidence?  I think they actually found modern evidence of occupation in China, because that's how far they dug!

The forum leaves something to be desired, like posts.  The most recent post that I could find is from August, 2007.

This site has a lot of content, much more than the average investigation group site, and it takes a while to get through it all.  I recommend you take a look and judge for yourself because I'm just on the fence.  As soon as I think I like it, I find something that makes me roll my eyes.  As soon as I'm ready to click the X, I find something that keeps me reading.  Please cast your votes for this site, I need help!

The Supernatural World http://www.thesupernaturalworld.co.uk/index.php Reviewed by Cassandra 2 BONES

When I clicked on the link to get to this website from a voting site (which is the normal way I check out sites for a review), I was in a state of minor shock. The amount of graphics and the text was overwhelming and a bit difficult to read. I was intrigued and waded my way through and clicked on an image that interested me (Bizarre) and was disappointed to discover that even though they encourage visitors to “Click on the topic of your choice to browse thousands of archived news articles.” this was not true. I clicked and went through all the categories displayed and not a single click led me to the topic in question.

Another thing that disappointed me is the double images of Derek Acorah – The UK’s # 1 Medium. Why have it on twice? If you proudly display in your welcome statement that you are “Officially the # 1 Paranormal & Supernatural Portal in the World”, and boast of 14,072 members, you are saying you are the best. Forgive me, but displaying errors on your home page, however minimal, is not an indication of ‘the best’.

I turned to Submitted Articles to see if these links were working and would take me to the articles and they did. There were 36 of them, and each one was written by a person whose name was T. Stokes.  So I decided to start reading some of them, and sorry to say, it’s just personal opinions written by somebody who calls himself a ‘Paranormal studies lecturer and Consultant Palmist’.  All that is fine and dandy, but what do personal opinions about religion and the war or politics have to do with the paranormal or palm reading? However, I will refrain from anything else but invite you to read and judge these articles for yourself. They are not hard to miss, for they are the only submitted articles on the home page.

I scrolled down to the categories they had under that on the Paranormal. All of these have been submitted or posted by the same person. Did he write them? Or did he copy them off somewhere? No credits at the bottom led me to believe that they were his, so I double-checked using google, and found the exact same information, word for word on another website: The Pink Fridge, which you can check for yourselves at http://www.pinkfridge.com/f_bepsychic/clairaudience.htm . Also, on The Pink Fridge there was a copyright statement at the bottom, something that should be respected at all costs. I wonder if the person who posted these articles and left out the name of the person who wrote them is the same person who owns The Pink Fridge?

I then went on to review the forum, which is fine. It has all the basic things you would expect in a paranormal forum. However, to my extreme disappointment, on clicking on the forum topic, I discovered I had to register in order to read the topics posted.

I’m really sorry if this will offend the people who put up this site, but I have to say the truth and I will. The Supernatural World should keep up with what it shouts to the world, if it says it is the best, then it should be of high quality and standards in everything it offers its members and visitors on the site, which is not what I saw. I spent hours reading what I could read there, and returned several times in hopes of finding new and constructive material on this site but I didn’t.

I give this site 2 bones – Bad, Needs improvement!
